According to Terhathum Chief District Officer Kali Prasad Parajuli, a total of 12 houses and 16 shops have been destroyed in the fire. [break]
The fire had broken out at Manglung bazaar, the district headquarters, and Deudi village of Chhate Dhunga on Saturday evening and at Essebu VDC on Tuesday evening.
The fire gutted houses belonging to Chiranjivi Shrestha, Jay Prasad Dhakal and Raghunath Shrestha in Myanglung.
“Two garment shops, an electronic shop, a utensil shop, a cosmetic shop, a fancy store, three hotels, and a dairy shop in Myanglung bazaar reduced to ashes,” said Parajuli.
Police believe that an electric short circuit in the fancy store had sparked the fire. A team of police, army and locals had taken around three hours to douse the fire that started around 1 am.
The fire in Deudi village has gutted down houses belonging to Prahalad Upreti, Arun Kandangwa and Khagendra Tamang. According to the police, a total of three houses and four shops were destroyed in the fire.
“Besides the houses, three grocery stores and one fancy store was destroyed in the fire,” said Shatdunga Area Police in charge Dhan Bahadur Khatri.
According to Khatri, the fire started from the fancy store owned by Upreti and spread to other houses within moments.
Similarly, fire in Essebu VDC gutted down a three story building as valuables like gold, money, food items, cloths and utensils were also destroyed.
Meanwhile, Tehrathum District Administration Office on Sunday distributed relief materials to the fire victims of Manglung bazaar. Each family received Rs 5000 in relief.
Nepal Red Cross Society also donated clothes, food items, tents and cooking utensils to the fire victims on Sunday.
