FinMin urges WB to increase investment in employment-generating projects

KATHMANDU, Sept 6: Minister for Finance Shanker Prasad Koirala has urged the Nepal Country Director of the World Bank to increase its investments in employment-generating projects.



During a meeting with Country Director of the World Bank Johannes Zutt at the Finance Ministry, Minister Koirala said that partnership of the WB was necessary for the economic reform and development.[break]



Stating that timely budget was an opportunity for development, he said that the government has expected activeness and participation of the WB in the sectors of hydropower, infrastructure development, tourism, agriculture and irrigation.



The government has accorded top priority to such projects, he added.



The Finance Minister stressed on the need of moving ahead by maintaining mutual cooperation as poverty alleviation was a common goal of the both, and expressed commitment to addressing interest of donor agencies.



On the occasion, Zutt complained that expected results in development could not be gotten due to transfer of employees, failing to carry out development works on time, weak monitoring process and lack of financial discipline.



According to the Finance Ministry, the WB has assured for co-work in programmes bringing improvement on economic condition of people.
