During a meeting with Dr Sundaram Annamalaya, Director of WB South Asia Group, the Finance Minister urged the WB to assist Nepal in its campaign of reducing poverty to 19 per cent from the existing 25 per cent within the next three years.[break]
The government was actively working for issuing bond to reduce the risk for foreign investment and good news is expected within the next few days, he added.
Expressing gratitude to the WB for its assistance to Nepal, Minister Koirala stressed on increasing investment in energy, physical infrastructures development and irrigation sectors.
The Finance Minister expressed concerns over the shifting of WB Nepal office without prior information and urged to immediately to relocate the office.
In response, Director Annamalaya said that the meeting of World Bank Executive Council was going to take place and pledged to take up the matters to the meeting.
Stating that the WB would gradually increase investment in the sector proposed by the Nepal government, he urged the Finance Minister to create investment-friendly atmosphere.
Similarly, Kuwaiti Ambassador to Nepal, Sami Mohammed Al-Sulaiman, called on Finance Minister Koirala and said Kuwait was willing to increase its participation in Nepal´s development.
He assured the government of security to 65,000 Nepali workers in Kuwait.
On the occasion, Minister Koirala requested Kuwaiti Ambassador Al-Sulaiman to immediately set up a residential embassy in Nepal, saying it would further cement the two countries´ relations established in 1979.
He expressed happiness over the Kuwaiti government´s interest in investing in the Budhi Gandaki Hydro Project.
Chief of the Foreign Division at Finance Minister, Madhu Kumar Marasini, Joint Secretary Nabaraj Bhandari and Chairman of Nepal-Kuwait Chamber of Commerce Surendra Bir Malakar were also present on the occasion.
