GANDAKI, Dec 9: Finance Minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has said it is imperative for Nepal to reduce climate change impacts. Inaugurating the 8th Mountain Festival organized by Nepal Mountaineering Association in Pokhara on Friday, climate change has hit the mountainous countries like Nepal and mountain culture as well.
The mountain and mountain culture are significant for tourism which ultimately contributes to economic prosperity. He argued that Nepal is at the receiving end of climate change despite not having any role in global warming. Minister Mahat argued that Nepal deserves compensation for the loss and damage caused by climate change. On a different note, he informed that the government had kept tourism, hydropower, agriculture and IT.

Similarly, Minister for Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment of Gandaki Province, Dipendra Bahadur Thapa, shared that a committee was formed to take initiatives to make Pokhara as tourism capital. He mentioned that a process was forwarded to legalize marijuana and homemade liquor.
Senior Vice-President of Nepal Mountaineering Association and Museum Coordinator, Thakur Raj Pandey, Executive Director of the Museum, Nirmala Kumari Neupane, among others talked about the importance of the museum and its contribution in tourism promotion in the program chaired by Association President Nima Nuru Sherpa.
On the occasion, Chairperson of Chunnumri Rural Municipality, Nima Lama, and Pasang Lhamu rural municipality of Gorkha for their continuity to the movement of non-violence for long. The five-day festival organized at Ratopaira-based International Mountain Museum lasts till December 12. Six documentaries related to mountaineering and mountain life would be screened along with dialogues on impacts of climate change in the festival. A play 'Silent Words' was performed on Friday with collaboration of Bird Conservation Nepal.
