Thirty five films from Nepal, Burma, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh will be screened this year. The films deal with different themes like sexuality, body image issues, Maoist insurgency, etc.
Award winning Indian filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan will be launching the festival on November 19. Gopalakrishnan is
the recipient of numerous awards, both from India and abroad, and has screened his films at prestigious film festivals in Cannes, Venice, Berlin, and London, among others.
The veteran filmmaker will also conduct a workshop on the first day of the festival. A film about the works of Gopalakrishnan will be screened on November 22, the last day of FSA 2015. ‘Feet Upon The Ground’ has been directed by Vipin Vijay and is ‘a guided tour of celebrated filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s creative topography’.
The 10th edition of FSA also includes films made by students. This section is meant to encourage aspiring filmmakers. More than 80 submissions were received for the student section but only the best eight films will be screened at the festival. Five films are from India while Burma and Nepal has one film each in this section.
The three best films, including a debut film, will be awarded at the closing ceremony of the festival.
