KATHMANDU, Oct 17: Film enthusiasts set your date for the upcoming Film Southasia. This year, the biennial film festival is scheduled from November 2 to November 5 at Yalamaya Kendra, Lalitpur. 


According to the press statement released by the FSA, it aims to partner with a key organization that works for freedom of expression, to showcase independently produced documentaries and non-fiction films that address contemporary issues in compelling ways and encourage transformation thinking that leads to social justice and equity led economic growth.

It added that the FSA 2017 received more than 300 films where the international selection committee selected the films on the basis of craft and significance of the story. FSA'17 will screen 46 films under the competition category while 12 other films will be screened in a special non-competitive section, 'Documentaries of Dissent'. 


Moreover, they will also screen six films under the 'Student Films' category to showcase the works of the next generation of filmmakers.


Films such as ‘A Delicate Weave' by Anjali Monteiro and KP Jayasankar (India, 2017), 'A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness' by Sharmeen Obain Chinoy (Pakistan, 2015), 'Afghanistan Night Stories' by Alka Sadat (Afghanistan, 2016), 'Among the Believers' by Hemal Trivedi and Mohammed Naqvi (Pakistan, 2015) among others will be showcased under the ‘Documentaries of Dissent’ category.


This year, the festival jury is chaired by journalist Kunda Dixit (Kathmandu) with Farjad Nabi (Lahore) and Rajashri Dasgupta (Kolkata) as members.
