BHAIRAHAWA, Aug 6: Even though the paddy plantation season is almost over, the Agriculture Inputs Company of Rupandehi started distributing Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer only from Sunday.

AIC should have distributed fertilizers to the farmers at subsidized rates one-and-half months before the plantation season began. [break]

However, the farmers were compelled to buy fertilizers from India at high price as AIC failed to procure the fertilizers in time. "We have received the fertilizers now, but it is of no use," said Chinak Tharu, a farmer from Madhwaliya.

Ali Hussain, a farmer from Bhairahawa, said the DAP fertilizers they just received has not eased their problems. "If the fertilizers were meant for farmers, they should have arrived on time. I think our government doesn´t understand that we need fertlizers on time for plantation," said Hussain.

"This is nothing but cunningness of those in power to delay the delivery of fertilizers so that they can sell them at expensive rates to the farmers later."

AIC has distributed only 217 metric tons of the total 400 metric tons of DAP fertilizers allocated to the district.
