Felling of trees, animal poaching on rise

BHOJPUR, July 9: Illegal felling of trees in the national forests in the eastern parts of the district is on the rise as these forests await their transfer to the local community for conservation.



Locals say that trees are being felled rampantly and poaching of wild animal sis on the rise in the forests at Thulodumma and Bastim Village Development Committees (VDCs) under the Yaku Range post of the district.



The District Forests Office said the management of 70 per cent forests in the area still remains to be handed over to the local communities.



The District Forest Office has the policy of handing over the management of the forests to the local communities and community forestry is meeting with success in other VDCs in the district.
