KATHMANDU, Dec 8: In a bid to press the demands of the earthquake victims of the deadly earthquake that struck the country on April 25 this year, the victims from across the 10 affected districts have joined hands to launch an umbrella organization.

Expressing their serious displeasure over the government's apathy on the reconstruction of the damaged infrastructures even after 8 months, they formally registered a nationwide umbrella body --Federation of Earthquake Victims -- at the District Administration Office, Kathmandu.

The federation has been formed under the leadership of Som Prasad Bhandari, an earthquake victim of Sindhupalchowk district. Achyut Khanal has been nominated as the general secretary. Meanwhile, the federation has blamed the government's unclear policy and the failure to set up the Reconstruction Authority in time for the delay in rehabilitation of the quake victims. The federation has also put forth a 29-point demand to the government. General Secretary Khanal has threatened to launch protest from January 1 if the government failed to heed their demands on time.
