Speaking at an interaction organized in Washington DC on Sunday, the former army chief alleged that political parties had failed to live up to the hopes and aspirations of Nepali people. [break]
Katawal argued that new constitution can not be promulgated even after five years if the parties failed to forge consensus on the type of government they want to have in the country through new constitution. He argued that the federalism will not be economically viable and that this could precipitate the country into disintegration.
Katawal made critical remarks on current political situation in Nepal though he claimed to be speaking in his capacity as a citizen and a former employee of the government. He, however, denied possibility of joining politics any time soon.
Criticizing excuse of transition period made by politicians for poor law and order situation in the country, Katawal said it is high time that all Nepalis collectively spoke the truth about it. He said Nepali people want peace the most than anything else.
Katawal claimed that the decision of the Maoist-led government to sack him from his post was illegal and defended his moves to stay in the post even after then government´s decision.
