FDI worth Rs 5.88 billion pledged in the past one month

KATHMANDU, Sept 19: Foreign companies pledged to invest additional Rs 5.88 billion in Nepal in the past one month.


The records with the Department of Industry (DoI) show that Nepal received commitment for foreign direct investment (FDI) worth Rs 2.72 billion for 51 new firms during mid-August and mid-September. The remaining amount of Rs 3.16 billion has been pledged to be invested in share purchase agreement, share subscription agreement and technology transfer agreement of the operating firms.

In the first two months of the current fiscal year, foreign investors took forward proposals to invest Rs 14.65 billion in 111 firms. Of these, Rs 3.202 billion was pledged for 12 old firms.


Out of the proposed firms, 53 were related to tourism business, 44 service sector, nine were related to production, two were each in communication and technology and infrastructure development, while one was related to the agriculture sector. A  total of 104 were small firms while five were medium level industries and two were the large firms.
