MAHOTTARI, Oct 18: Farmers in Mahottari district have been concerned after the paddy in the field started drying up suddenly at the time of harvest.

Paddy plantation was delayed due to the heavy flood in the district on 17 August. The paddy seedlings started drying up after their plantation due to drought thereafter.

According to farmers there should be at least water up to four inches of water in the paddies for the healthy growth of paddy.

The District Agricultural Development Office estimates the paddy production in the district will decrease by 60 per cent to 70 per cent this time due to the lack of adequate rainfall.

Agriculture experts said besides the paddy the yield of other cereal crops might also decline due to lack of timely rain.
