MELAMCHI, Jan 10: A book authored by American writer of Indian origin has been torched in Chautara of Sindhupalchowk for spreading rumor about Gautam Buddha, the founder of Buddhism.

In his book published in May 2009, "The Post-American World", a non-fiction, Fareed Zakaria, claimed the Buddha was an Indian and Buddhism was born in India.

Sindhu Literature Society set the book on fire for making the malicious claim, said Amit Ghimire a member of the society.

"How dare he write this without studying about the Buddha and attack Nepal´s sovereignty?" questioned Ghimire.

It is shameful that a person like Zakaria who did PhD in political science does not know where the Buddha was born, he added.
