The arrested man has been identified as dance director Rahul Balmiki, 23, of Nepalgunj-12. Following complaints from the victimized girls that their accounts had been hacked and vulgar pictures uploaded as their profile pictures, police arrested him on the basis of the mobile recharge card provided by a victim.Balmiki demanded cash and frequently asked for recharge numbers also as a bribe not to misuse the girls' profiles on their Facebook accounts. According to a girl from Samakhushi, Balmiki sent a facebook message about an event management related to a beauty contest and asked for the password to send her the code for participation in the event.
"Once he got access to my account, he hacked my Facebook account and started to hack the accounts of my friends also in similar fashion," said the girl, who was present at a press conference, adding. "He did not stop hacking my account even though I implored him."
Police investigations established that Balmiki had blackmailed over 35 girls, women and some males also. After tracing him on the basis of the recharge pin number provided by one of the girls, police brought him to Kathmandu and initiated action under the Electronic Transactions Act.
