KATHMANDU, June 9: Concerned stakeholders have stressed on need for bringing 'transformation in school education' with an aim to produce human resources that can best suit the needs of present time.

At an interaction held by Global Action Nepal here, speakers warned the public education will not rise above current standard if prevalent trend and attitude persisted. They insisted on efforts from civil society for the transformation.

They further maintained that the Education Act (Eight Amendment) Bill recently endorsed by the parliament has set the stage for creative transformation in the school education, but added that alone cannot shoulder the issue of transformation.

Educationist Dr Bishnu Karki said, "We must prepare a critical lot for a transformation in education. Transformation is a process reflecting the development from larva stage to pupa and then to the emergence of a butterfly," Karki said adding, "We must all be ready for this."

Nepal Government's former Secretary, Mahashram Sharma, said the educational reformation demanded maintenance of a good governance by equipping the local level of its rights and implementation of punishment and award system.

Lamjung District Education Officer, Gyanmani Nepal, argued for making teachers the mainstay of educational transformation and stressed on need on part of teachers to be creative and practical in classrooms.

Global Action Nepal Director, Babu Kaji Shrestha, said steps were being taken for developing the schools in order to tally with the necessities of the local community.
