The House meeting slated for November 11 will now initiate the procedure for formation of the experts’ panel, informed Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Paudel after the meeting. [break]
The implementation of today´s decision requires an amendment to the existing constitutional provision, which envisages setting up a separate commission to determine the names, number and delineation of the to-be-formed federal states.
Similarly, the meeting decided to form a 5-member taskforce to study and make suggestions on settlement of issues related to electoral system and forms of governance, Paudel said.
Participating leaders at today´s meeting have also agreed to call a CC meeting for Saturday at 10 am.
The sub committee had not been able to hold its meeting for a long time after the Nepali Congress insisted on resolving issues of the peace process prior to agreeing on the draft of the new constitution.
The sub committee, headed by UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, has already sorted out about 200 outstanding issues surrounding the constitution writing.
With only less than one month remaining before the Constituent Assembly´s term expires on November 30, there are still more than three dozen issues to be resolved related to state restructuring, electoral system and forms of governance.
