KATHMANDU, Dec 9: National Farmers Group Association and Nepal Agriculture Journalist Academy jointly organized a talk program on Saturday to discuss a draft policy on inclusion of agricultural education in the primary education curriculum. 

Krishna Poudel, advisor for National Farmers Group Association; Babu Ram Adhikari, member of National Education Commission (NPC); Rajesh Barma, president of Nepalese Agriculture Journalist Association; and Udhav Adhikari, president of National Farmers Education Association featured as panelists for the discussion.

Farmers and journalists from the community took part in the discussion that dwelt on the practical use of education and ways it could help change the perspectives of people regarding farming and its importance in the economy. 

Speaking at the event, Poudel said that the curriculum should reflect our geographical conditions and agricultural situation, and the methodology taught should be easily applicable in the fields. 

Members of the farming community raised concerns about the quality of education that was being drafted by different organizations.

NPC member Adhikari said: “The curriculum should be production oriented, it should reflect the geographical conditions of the nation, and promote self-reliance and self-employment among its students.”
