The daring mountaineers are continuing to camp at the Everest Base Camp and the surrounding areas and planning to continue their expedition, said the Department of Tourism.
Department's Director General Tulasi Gautam said works have started to open up the obstruction at the notorious ice-fall, the pathway towards camp 1 and 2 leading up to the summit.
"A team has already reached the site to open up the obstruction at the ice-fall and the expedition will likely resume in about a week," he said. Gautam added that he had not been informed of cancellation of any expedition.
At least 210 mountaineers who were trapped at Camp 1 and 2 following the avalanche triggered by the earthquake have been rescued and brought back down to the base camp area, according to the Department.
A total of 510 climbers of 42 expeditions are waiting a favourable condition to resume their bid at climbing the highest peak in the world. Including the support staff of Sherpas, a total of 800 people are waiting for the ascent. The second and the last week of the month of May is considered most opportune for climbing Mt Everest.
The Sagarmatha Pollution Control Mission is tasked with the duty to manage the route to the peak. It constructs the pathway by attaching ropes for the ultimate ascent.
In the avalanche prompted by the massive earthquake on Saturday, 18 tourists including their support staff were killed. Among the dead foreigners three were Americans, and one each from China, Japan and Australia. RSS
