DHARAN, June 9: Former Vice Chancellor of BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), Dharan, Prof Dr Raj Kumar (RK) Rauniyar has been cleared of corruption charges.
The Special Court on Wednesday acquitted Dr RK Rauniyar and his nephew Dr Ram Hari Rauniyar in the final hearing of the case. A bench of Judges Shrikant Poudel, Yamuna Bhattarai and Dr Khushi Prasad Tharu of the Special Court's Bench No. 1 gave a clean chit to both of them.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had conducted a sting operation about two years ago and arrested the uncle and nephew from the BPKIHS along with the bribe money. The CIAA had claimed that they had taken a bribe of Rs 800,000 from a contractor. The CIAA registered a case against former Vice Chancellor Dr Rauniyar and his nephew Dr Ram Hari on 4 August, 2019 on charges of corruption. Rauniyar was suspended from the post of vice-chancellor as soon as the authority filed the case.
Dr Rauniyar, who was cleared of the corruption charges by the court, responded that he got justice even though it was delayed. “I was treated unfairly. Even though it’s late, I have got justice. I will come to Dharan and hold a press conference soon and say more about this whole episode of fake corruption charges,” he told Republica.
Former Vice Chancellor Dr Rauniyar has lost his chance to be reinstated to the post despite being cleared of corruption charges by the Special Court as his term ended last February.
