Pung Thai, an NGO led by Shinawatra himself, is preparing to clean and purify the water of the holy pond in which Mayadevi is said to have taken a ritual bath before giving birth to the Buddha, said a source with the Lumbini Development Fund.
A few months ago, the NGO had constructed a path inside Mayadevi temple premise with an investment of Rs 10 million.
The former Thai prime minister was received by Haridhwoj Rai, the information officer of the Lumbini Development Fund.
On the occasion, Shinawatra expressed willingness to contribute to the development of Lumbini with Thailand´s vast resources, according to Rai.
The 11-member team, including Thai Ambassador, that accompanied Thaksin in his Lumbini visit had planned to return to Kathmandu by a Yeti Airlines flight at 1:00 pm on Saturday itself, but the flight was cancelled due to bad weather.
“The guests are taking rest at a Thai Vihar after the flight was cancelled due to the thick fog,” informed a Thai Vihar official.
Shinawatra took a straight flight to Bhairahawa after landing at Tribhuwan International Airport on Friday.
A Thai prime minister from 2001 to 2006, Shinawatra was overthrown in a military coup.
