KATHMANDU, April 23: Former Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai who has been admitted to the Norvic International Hospital in Thapathali since Monday afternoon is in critical condition.

The octogenarian Nepali Congress leader is now in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) under the supervision of cardiologist Dr Bharat Rawat and chest specialist Dr Ramesh Chokhani, who are supported by other physicians. He has serious problems in heart, kidneys and lungs. He is breathing on oxygen, not making enough urine and his blood pressure is low.

"Bhattarai remains critical and is kept in ICU. Because of his age and multiple problems, many drugs and procedures cannot be applied. We can only choose from a few safe drugs. We are trying our best," Dr Rawat said.
