Kamala Naharki has been appointed as the vice-chairman, Pushpa Gharti Magar as general secretary, Sushma Gautam as secretary and Purna Pun Thapa as treasure of the committee that will oversee the academy. Similarly, Prabina Gole, Rupsari Pariyar, Kunti Joshi and Sarswati Lama will be its members.
Sharma and Gharti Magar were part of Young Communist League (YCL). Earlier, Sharma was a brigade vice commander and Gharti Magar was battalion commissar and they were discharged from cantonment just ahead of the constituent assembly elections. Naharki held the topmost post among the women PLA.
Among the committee members, Prabina had lost her hand and Pariyar lost her leg during the insurgency.
"We will set up a museum to keep the records that will highlight the sacrifices of women PLA. It will include the photos of those women PLA who fought in the first assault in the war and got martyrdom," said Pun, informing that the people should remember those brave women fighters.
Chairman Sharma claimed that there were more women involved in the war than in the conflicts in any other country and the organization will help to get it recognized in the world.
Earlier, the ruling Maoist had formed the ex-PLA under the leadership of former PLA chief Nanda Kishor Pun. CPN-Maoist has also formed People´s Volunteer merging the YCL and youths.
According to PLA sources, around 7000 women were involved in the decade long war. Among them, 102 former women PLA are undergoing training in the Nepal Army after their integration.
Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has been nominated as the patron and Hisila Yami, Onsari Gharti Magar, Kamala Roka Magar and Jun Kumari Roka Magar as advisers.
