Ex-MP Panta joins UML

KATHMANDU, Sept 2: Around 40 individuals of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgender (LGBTS) including former Constituent Assembly member Sunil Babu Panta have joined the CPN-UML on Monday amidst a function held at its party central office, Balkhu.



CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal welcomed LGBT members into the party on Monday afternoon. Panta, also the head of the Blue Diamond Society, an LGBT rights organization in Nepal, was an MP under the proportional representation system in the dissolved parliament cum Constituent Assembly member representing the CPN-Samyukta. “Since the agenda that we have been advocating for years could not be established as a major political agenda we decided to join the UML hoping that this party can strongly lobby in favor of our concerns in the national politics,” Panta said while addressing the function.
