Speaking at a program organized to seek suggestions of the former finance ministers on the upcoming fiscal budget, they advised the government not to put concentration on only on GDP growth at the time when country is facing huge trade deficit, poor capital expenditure and low export.[break]
Speaking at the program Nepali Congress leader and former finance minister Ram Sharan Mahat claimed that the existing problem of Nepal´s economy is lack of good governance rather than poor environment for the investment.
Lauding the government for putting its priorities in energy, irrigation and infrastructure development sectors, Mahat further urged to categorically spell out its objective in these sectors by specifying the certain time period.
Mahat further suggested the government to start investment in the tourism sector which had been invested so far by the private sector only.
Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) leader Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani urged the government to allocate the budget for the installation of solar lights at the streets of the Kathmandu valley.
UML leader and former finance minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari also advised the government not to introduce the multi-rate tax provision in the budget at the time when the national economy is finding difficulties to expand.
