KATHMANDU, May 8: Former Finance Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has urged the government to give high priority on poverty reduction and unemployment in the fiscal year budget.
Speaking at the Parliament’s Finance Committee on Wednesday, NC leader Karki said that the government should maintain balance in the distribution of the fiscal year budget at provincial levels.

“The imbalanced budget distribution at the provincial levels may invite deep frustration, eventually leading to a form of revolt if the budget is not allocated on the equal footing,” Karki said while cautioning the government.
The NC leader also said that the fiscal year budget allocation should not be politically motivated. “There should not be politics in the budget allocation. As per the people’s need, the fiscal year budget should be distributed in all election constituencies,” he said.
Karki said that the government failed to live up to the people’s expectations in the past year since it came to power. “I urge the government to utilize the remaining four years time for the people’s well-being,” he said.
