KATHMANDU, May 5: Society of Ex-Budhanilkantha Students (SEBS) informed that it has already started distributing relief materials in Sindhupalchowk district with initial assistance from Buddha Air.

Sindhupalchowk, where over 3,000 people perished following the 7.8 Richter scale earthquake, is one of the hardest hit district.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the society said that a total of 2,000 tarpaulins and 2,000 sacks of rice have been distributed to the quake victims from 24 VDCs in Melamchi areas in the district on Tuesday, according to Dr Snidha Mainali, the president of SEBS."Our relief materials have so far benefited 1,03,000 people of 24,000 households in 24 VDCs," she told Republica.

Earlier, the SEBS had distributed to a total of 1,000 tarpaulins and 1,000 sacks of rice (30 kg per sack) at 7 VDCs in the district, she further said.

"We've assessed that the immediate food and shelter needs in the affected areas can be minimally addressed by providing one 15 X 18 feet tarpaulin and rice (one 30 kg sack) for a family of average five members," she said.

"We're still raising funds to purchase more tarpaulins and sacks of rice, and we'll dispatch them to the affected areas as early as possible," she added.
