DADELDHURA, Nov 11: Senior orthopedic surgeon Dr Govinda Kc has said that every citizen should get access to health and education, but this is still a pie in the sky for many in the country because of the government's apathy.

Speaking with the media at the Dadeldhura District Hospital on Sunday, Dr Kc said that he will present his demands strongly for reforms in the health and education sectors. Dr Kc started his 17th fast-unto-death last Sunday, presenting a seven-point demand seeking reforms in the health and education sectors.“People voted for the current government with a hope of reforms in the sector. The government needs to work for the people,” Dr Kc said.

Dr Kc started his latest fast-unto-death on Nov 3. Meanwhile, on Friday, Dr Kc was admitted to the Dadeldhura Hospital following some health problems. Dr Kc was admitted to the hospital as he experienced problems largely because the room he was stating the protest in was cold. On the third day of his hunger strike, he could not even speak.

In October, Dr KC had asked the government to fulfill the agreements it had reached with him earlier. Establishing a medical college in Doti is one of his demands. He has also demanded the fulfillment of the demands of health workers of public hospitals in the far west.

Meanwhile, the civil society in Dadeldhura organized a protest rally in support of Dr KC. Locals and different organizations participated in the rally led by the civil society in support of Dr KC.

The participants of the rally said that the rally was organized as the government didn't implement the agreements reached with Dr KC during his 16th fast-unto-death. The participants were carrying placards bearing different slogans in support of Dr KC.

The supporters of Dr KC on Sunday also participated in protests in Dadeldhura. According to Prakash Saud, Sudurpaschim province co-ordinator of Nepal Chamber of Commerce, Dr KC has been demanding that health and education should be accessible to all the people.

Likewise, a participant of the protest said that the demands of Dr KC are genuine, and are in favor of the poor people. Meanwhile, the participants warned to intensify their protest if the demands of Dr KC were not met.
