Everest sees season's first successful ascent

SALLERI, May 15: The Mount Everest, the world's highest peak, witnessed a successful ascent of this season Monday, with an expedition team comprising 11 people including the Sherpa guides reaching its top.

SALLERI, May 15: The Mount Everest, the world's highest peak, witnessed a successful ascent of this season Monday, with an expedition team comprising 11 people including the Sherpa guides reaching its top. 


Earlier, with the help of 11 Sherpa icefall doctors working with the Jagged Globe Company, the route from the Camp IV to the summit of the mountain was opened. A team headed by Company's climber Pema Chhring Sherpa fixed the route up to the top of Everest, the Company said.

The expedition team becoming the first team to successfully scale the Everest of this season also included three British Gurkhas, according to the government's liaison officer Gyanendra Shrestha. The team set foot on the Everest summit at 13:15 today. 

A team of around 70 people is waiting at Camp IV to set out for the expedition up to the peak tomorrow. 


The data of the Department of Tourism shows that 374 individuals have taken the route permission to climb the world's highest peak this year. RSS
