Everest Hotel to add 90 rooms, restaurant

KATHMANDU, Oct 12: Expecting a robust growth ahead, Everest Hotel has said it would add 90 rooms in three years. The five-star hotel which started with 160 rooms recently completed 30 years in business.



Mughis Khan, General Manager of the hotel, said, "Encouraged by increasing tourism trend, we have decided to add 90 rooms which will come into operation in near future." [break]



Senior Sales and Marketing Director of the hotel Ashwini Acharya said that hotel was observing growth of 30-35 percent in recent months.



"There is a growth in the market of India, China, Japan and Bangladesh," he said adding that the hotel had lost customers from some segments particularly Japan, China, Malaysia and USA during the conflict period. He said, "Now, we have retained customers from this segment which has contributed to our growth.



The hotel is also upgrading and renovating all its rooms. Khan said the hotel recently upgraded 78 rooms to deluxe rooms.



"Our recent upgradation plans include replacement of old television sets with 40-inch LCD TV and other changes in the interiors," he said. The hotel has started a cultural dance program for the entertainment of guests and is planning to operate a restaurant targeting local clients with mixed cuisine.



In-house restaurants of the hotel include Mandarin-roof top restaurant, which offers Chinese food offering a 360-degree view of the valley. The Far Pavillion is another restaurant that serves Mughali dishes while The Café offeres breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet with a-la carte menu comprising continental, Indian as well as Italian delicacies.







The 160-room hotel with four eateries, a bar and a banquet hall is currently employing 300-odd people, out of which 90 percent are permanent employees.



Acharya said, "Although the occupancy was less earlier compared from now, the number of high-end clients was certainly more," he said adding that majority of visitors in recent years were budget clients.



The hotel is charging tariff above $ 200 a night and it varies for different categories of room it offers which includes Everest Club Room, Suite Room, Deluxe Room and Superior Room.
