Everest climbing permit fee: $15,000 for foreigners, Rs 150,000 for Nepalis

Those planning to climb Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, will have to pay $7,500 instead of $5,500 in the autumn season. The fee for the winter and monsoon seasons has increased from $3,750 to $2,750.

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: The government of Nepal has increased the permit fee for climbing Mount Everest. The climbing fee for foreigners has been increased from US $11,000 to US $15,000, which is a 36 percent increase.


“The new rate will be effective from September 1, 2025, but those wishing to climb Mount Everest this spring will not have to pay the additional fee,” said Madhav Adhikari, an official from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation

Meanwhile, those planning to climb Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, will have to pay $7,500 instead of $5,500 in the autumn season. The fee for the winter and monsoon seasons has increased from $3,750 to $2,750.


The fee for Nepali climbers has doubled from Rs 75,000 to Rs 150,000. Nepal last revised the mountaineering permit fee on January 1, 2015.


Mount Everest has attracted many climbers, including highly experienced climbers. It has two main climbing routes, one from the south-east of Nepal to the summit and the other from the north in Tibet.
