According to Kul Bahadur Thapa, secretary of the ceremony organizing subcommittee, the opening ceremony of the Fifth National Games, to be held at Dasrath Stadium, will feature around 7,500 people.

The Nepali Army will shower flower petals over the stadium to mark the beginning of the games. And for the first time in Nepal, three bands—from the Nepal Army, the Police and the Armed Police Force—will all play together: Major Amar Dali Karki has been given the responsibility of synchronizing the bands.
The ceremony will also feature 600 athletes from various martial arts schools—Taekwondo ITF, Sitoriyo Karate and Wushu; these athletes, wearing masks of the red panda (the games’ mascot), will put on kata shows.

Students of Nightingale and V.S Niketan schools will be presenting displays on themes of national unity and the spirit of the games, and students from 13 other schools will be involved in the parapet display. The Nepal Army will be showcasing its khukuri drill, while the APF will stage a display on the theme of the New Nepal.
The ceremony, which will be declared open by President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, will begin at 5 p.m and will last for around two-and-a-half hours.

The plans may seem grand, but at least one person likes how things are coming along. “Co-coordinating such a large scale event is indeed difficult. But after witnessing the pre-grand rehearsal, I am satisfied with what I have seen,” says Kul Bahadur Thapa.
