EPG member Uprety passes away

KATHMANDU, Dec 24 : Bhuwan Chandra Uprety, a member of the Eminent Persons Group on Nepal-India Relations from the Indian side, passed away on Monday.

Uprety, who was also an expert on India-Nepal relations, died in course of treatment at Eternal Multispecialty Hospital Jaipur in India.

"We are saddened by the news of the demise of Dr Uprety. He was one of the few scholars in India having good knowledge on Nepal," Geeta Kochhar, professor of Chinese Studies in Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi who is also an expert on India-Nepal relations, told Republica Online. 

He was admitted to hospital on Saturday.  Uprety is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Uprety was appointed as the member of EPG on Nepal-India Relations in February 2016. The EGP has already aacomplished its task and prepared its report. The report seeks to redefine Nepal-India relations in the changed political reality. However, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi have yet to receieve the report.
