Environment policy harks back to previous action plan

KATHMADU, July 9: Government is set to implement few major policies related to environment sector left unimplemented in the previous fiscal year.

As per the policy and program unveiled by the government on Wednesday, the government will formulate and implement environment-friendly vehicle and transport policy; adopt the programs envisaged by the Forest Policy, 2014; and regulate and control the trade in endangered wildlife and plants.The policy and program document states that steps would be taken to reduce the adverse effects of climate change, natural disaster, and deforestation.

It also mentions that measures to bolster weather and flood forecasting system to make them more scientific and reliable would be taken.

It also emphasizes on better programs for conserving and protecting rich flora and fauna of Nepal. The document speaks of creating wildlife garden and rehabilitation centers for wildlife conservation.

Moreover, it also stresses scientific management of forests. Development and expansion of community, leasehold, collaborative, protected and religious forests are equally emphasized.

In order to make 'President Chure Preservation Programme' more effective, sustainable management of Chure and Tarai-Madhes area through integrated development will be given propriety.
