KATHMANDU, Nov 11: All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) has urged the government to ensure strong and effective presence in Kalapani area, which has been encroached by Indian security forces since few decades.

Handing over a memorandum to Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali on Sunday, the student wing of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) demanded that security forces be deployed to the region so that Indian security forces won't be able to further encroach Nepali territory.

Once the state's strong presence is ensured in the region, the organization, said the government can resolve the border disputes diplomatically.

“Take initiatives to return the Indian Army occupying Nepal's territory in Kalapani without any further delay,” reads the memorandum submitted to the minister. The memorandum further urges the government to ensure strong and effective presence along the border.

A group of student leaders led by ANNFSU's coordinator Ain Mahar had drawn the government's attention toward the border encroachment issue.

Protests have sparked in different parts of the country and the government is holding consultations after the newly released India's political map depicted some areas of Darchula within its border.

An all-party meeting held at the prime minister's residence on Saturday had suggested the PM to take up the issue with his Indian counterpart and resolve the issue diplomatically.
