Later, additional reinforcements from Nepal Police and Armed Police Force (APF) had to be called and the encroachers were finally chased away after firing two tear gas shells and around 20 rounds in the air.
District Forest Officer (DFO) of Dhanusha Hira Lal Kushwaha said around 400 hundreds illegal huts were torched by the team in Charnath Khola, Gainchi Maithan, Dubiather and Uriyather of Bharatpur on Wednesday. He said three of the encroachers who attacked the team have been detained by the district forest office.
The team had started the campaign from Tuesday setting up a camp at the Area Forest Office Pushpawalpur.
Forest officials said thousands of bighas of forest land have been encroached in Bharatpur and Godar village development committees.
