BHAIRAHAWA, Nov 1: The Belahiya-Butwal Trade Road Expansion Project (BBTREP) is installing electric lights along the six-lane Belahiya-Butwal roadway.

After the solar lights installed along the roadway stopped working properly, the project in co-ordination with the local units is installing electric lights, which is comparatively cheaper than the solar lights, according to Jibendra Mishra, head of the project.

“The local government will bear the cost of the electricity charges. The lights will be installed around Tilottama Municipality within six months. The project is also preparing to call a tender to install lights in Siddharthanagar Municipality and Omsatiya Rural Municipality,” Mishra told Republica.

“Narendra-PSS JV got the contract to install electric lights around Tilottama Municipality at a cost of Rs 35.9 million (excluding VAT). The contractor should complete the work within six months,” said Arun Khatri, an engineer of the project.

A 150-watt bulb will be installed at a distance of 30 meters on the both sides of the road along the Belahiya-Butwal road. Likewise, 40-watt electric bulbs will be installed along the service roads of the section.

The contractor will bear the repair cost of the lights for five years. Likewise, the company will bear the repair cost of lights installed on the service road for two years.

According to Rajan Bhatta, a representative of Narendra-PSS JV, the company is putting pipes in the dividers to install lights along the road. “The design of the lights is in the final phase. The work was delayed due to the festivals. The installation work will resume at full pace after the festivals, and we will complete the work before the deadline,” Bhatta added.

According to the project, the solar lights installed on the roadway will be substituted by electric lights. Two years back, a total of 1,005 solar lights were installed along the roadway.
