While UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal have already begun their poll campaign, other parties have also started reaching out to the villages as part of their poll campaign. [break]
The UCPN (Maoist), which had won two seats from the district in the last CA election, has said that the party has expedited election campaign at the village level in all the four constituencies of the district.
The Maoist Banke District Secretary Dambar BK said that they have decided to intensify the campaign after the announcement of the date for fresh CA election. “It is our responsibility to create election environment since the government has already announced date for fresh election,” he said.
NC had organized a two-month-long election campaign in Banke district, which is home district of the party president Sushil Koirala. Local NC leaders said they plan to go to the villages once again.
NC Banke district Secretary Bijaya Bahadur Yadav said the announcement of the date of fresh election is a positive development. “This has paved for way for election. All the parties that are in favor of democracy do not need to fear the election,” he said. “We will hold a door-to-door campaign during our second phase of election campaign,” he said.
District level leaders of UML are equally happy with the announcement of the election date. The UML Banke District Chapter President Nanda Lal Rokaya said though they had already reached out to the people with the party´s agenda for polls the party will organize district level election campaign in the second phase.
The Madhes-based parties, which saw series of splits, have also stood in favor of election. “We were in confusion until the election date was announced. But with the announcement of the date, the atmosphere is now favorable for polls,” said Banke chairman of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (Democratic) Hira Lal Sonia.
MPRF-D, which claimed to have already expanded the party organization in the district, is also planning to intensify election campaign in the district.
Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal, which had suffered a humiliating defeat in the last CA elections, are hoping to win seats this time around. However, Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist and Upendra Yadav-led MPRF-Nepal have argued that the government has invited fresh confrontation by announcing election date without addressing their demands.
