Election Commission for observing maximum austerity in elections

KATHMANDU, April 11: Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhi Prasad Yadav has urged the officials to be mobilized for management of the upcoming local elections to exercise austerity in expenditure management of the same.

KATHMANDU, April 11: Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhi Prasad Yadav has urged the officials to be mobilized for management of the upcoming local elections to exercise austerity in expenditure management of the same. 


Addressing the chief returning officers and election officers to be mobilized for the May 14 elections today, he alerted them to avoid arrears in course of the managing the election-related expenditures.

The Election Commission is yet to recover arrears worth Rs. 135.1 million from the previous elections held to the Constituent Assembly in November 2013, according to the EC sources. Spending more than in the specified headings, involving persons above the limitation in the vote counting to be paid, and spending more than outlined in the directives were some of the issues related to expenditures management in the previous elections.


The EC is reportedly dispatching Rs. 450 million as first instalment for establishment and operation of the office of the chief returning officers and election officers. A total of 126,000 civil servants are being mobilized for the upcoming elections. RSS
