Elderly man dies after being swept away by canal

MORANG, July 28: An elderly man has died after being swept away by a canal in Budhiganga, Morang. Gyanendra Bahadur Basnet, spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) said that Saju Lal Chaudhary, 70, a resident of Budhiganga Rural Municipality-7, has died.

MORANG, July 28: An elderly man has died after being swept away by a canal in Budhiganga, Morang. Gyanendra Bahadur Basnet, spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) said that Saju Lal Chaudhary, 70, a resident of Budhiganga Rural Municipality-7, has died.


Chaudhary was swept away by the canal of Sunsari Morang irrigation Scheme (SMIS) while taking a bath on Saturday. Stating that the deceased, who went missing after being swept away by the canal, was discovered dead about 100 meters away from the incident site, DSP Basnet said, “A preliminary investigation revealed that Chaudhary was swept away by the canal while bathing. During the search operations, the deceased was found on the side of the canal about 100 meters to the east.

DSP Basnet said that the dead body has been taken to Koshi Hospital, Biratnagar for a post-mortem. Additionally, a team led by Tej Bahadur Dahal, Police Inspector and chief of the Area Police Office, Belbari, has commenced further investigation into the incident.
