KATHMANDU, Feb 24: Eight political parties decide to endorse the Nepali Congress (NC) candidate for the upcoming presidential election.

According to NC Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, the decision was made by the meeting of the ruling CPN (Maoist Center), Nepali Congress, CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party, Janamat Party, People's Front Nepal, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, and Nagarik Unmukti Party held at the prime minister's official residence in Baluwatar on Friday evening. The nomination for the presidential election scheduled for March 9 is on Saturday. 


Senior NC leader Ram Chandra Poudel is the likely candidate to become the new head of state. The election for the presidency is scheduled to take place on March 9. NC President Deuba has reportedly given words to Poudel that NC would field his candidacy for the new president.
