Eight Indians on Mansarovar pilgrimage dead

NEPALGUNJ, June 9: Eight Indian pilgrims who were headed for Mansarovar via Simikot of Humla district and Kodari of Sindhupalchowk district have died. [break]



Police said, one died of altitude sickness on June 1, and five died also of altitude sickness on June 3. Two additional pilgrims have died, police said.



Deputy Superintendent of Police Bahadur Singh Malla said police are still awaiting details of the deceased. Mansarovar is located at Mt. Kailash along the Nepal-China border.



The dead body of Indian national Damodar Das Agrawal, who was trying to reach the holy site via Simikot was brought back to Simikot via Hilsa and taken to his home in Banares.



The bodies of other five who were traveling to Mansarova via Kodari have also been brought back, police said. All the eight are Indian pilgrims.



This is the best season for pilgrims to go to Mansarovar. Sidhupalchowk’s Kodari route and the Nepalgunj-Simikot-Hilsa route are the most popular to the pilgrimage site.
