RAJBIRAJ, Oct 9:  Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhi Prasad Yadav has sought support from Madhes-based political parties, civil society and other groups for the introduction of a new electoral register.

The Election Commission has been updating the voters´ list along with photographs and fingerprints in a bid to end the use of proxy votes, rigging and ensure that genuine voters are not deprived of their right to vote.

However, some Madhes-based political parties have objected to the EC´s decision to not include the names of those who do not possess citizenship certificates in the voters´ list.

Stating that the EC´s plan was not discriminatory, Yadav urged the Madhesi parties protesting the EC move to instead suggest alternatives, if any. “The commission´s intention is to ensure that genuine voters are not denied their right to vote,” he said.
