EC to make parties' accounts transparent

KATHMANDU, Oct 6: The Election Commission (EC) is to make the accounts of income and expenditure of the political parties transparent.



The commission experts said the parties could be made responsible to people if their accounts are made transparent before going to polls.[break]



The EC on Friday organized an interaction on management of income and expenditure of the parties by enabling participation of accounts in-charges of the 93 parties registered at the commission.



The political parties should submit an annual report of income and expenditure within six months of the end of a fiscal year as per the Political Parties Act- 2058 BS.



Acting Chief Election Commissioner of EC, Nil Kantha Upreti informed about the reform process as an election management body and on the future strategy of EC.



Commission Joint Secretary Madhu Prasad Regmi presented a working paper on existing legal arrangement on income and expenditure to be presented by the parties.
