Chief Election Commissioner Neel Kantha Upreti said, "We wish to conduct the election on November 19 in a free, independent and impartial manner. The EC is fully concentrated on the same." [break]
CEC Upreti made this remark at an interaction programme with the chiefs of media houses on the Election Code of Conduct for CA members at the Commission on Monday.
Necessary Act has been promulgated through the ordinance while the EC has also passed the Election Regulations.
During the meeting, Commissioners and Secretary of the EC were also present.
On the occasion, CEC Upreti urged the media not to doubt towards the step of the EC as its main task was to conduct the election.
He said that the ballot papers would be printed through the Janak Education Material Limited.
So far, a total of 139 political parties have been registered in the EC for the November 19 election.
The Commission has already begun a study of the locations that would host the polling centres using the global position system (GPS) technology. The GPS technology will provide information about the centres´ geographical situation, security system, roads, electricity etc,
Chief Election Commissioner Upreti said the coming elections is to cost around 7 billion rupees and that a request for the same had been made to the government.
More than 200,000 employees including security personnel are to be mobilized for the elections, and a training module has already been developed for the employees to be mobilized during the elections.
The training for the staffs to be mobilized during the elections will begin soon, he added.
A voter education policy shall be developed to reach the doorstep of every voter, the CEC said.
Media persons taking part in the discussion suggested the Commission to entrust an independent body like the Press Council to monitor the media during the elections.
They also pledged to follow the election code of conduct during the elections.
