According to Election Commissioner Ila Sharma, who also heads the media monitoring committee of the EC, the media center will provide information to news media about the official views of the commission and about activities related to the CA polls from a single place.
She said the newly introduced media center will provide facility of photocopying and printing of information at the EC free of cost.
Media persons can use computers at the media center that will also provide video footages to the representatives of electronic media.
The center has allocated separate place for photo journalists and has installed surround sound system.
Commissioner Sharma stated that the construction of a ´call center´ with the assistance of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) is under way at the commission.
“The call center will have a toll-free number for receiving complaints of public and to inform common people about electoral process,” she added. Sharma maintained that the call center will come into operation within a couple of days.
According to her, the EC has also aimed to establish a well equipped video conference center in order to exchange information between the center and district election offices.
