KATHMANDU, Sep 22: As part of the preparations to hold the upcoming parliamentary and provincial elections, the Election Commission (EC) on Friday finalized the design of the ballot papers to be used for the Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system.

A board meeting of the election body endorsed the design, paving the way for printing the ballot papers. "It will be a single ballot paper for both parliamentary and provincial elections," said EC Commissioner Narendra Dahal.

There are 65 days to go before the first phase of the elections slated for November 26. "Since we have to print a huge number of ballot papers, we don't want to waste time. The printing of ballot papers will begin soon after arranging security at Janak Shikshya Samagri Kendra Limited," said Dahal.

The EC estimates that it has to print 34 million ballot papers for the upcoming elections. "The printing of ballot papers is a time taking job. So, we are beginning to print the ballot papers for PR category from September 26," said Dahal.

The EC is holding the first round of parliamentary and provincial elections on November 26 while the second round of elections will take place on December 7. Both parliamentary and provincial elections will be conducted simultaneously.
