“We have deployed chief returning officers and returning officer for the second round local elections. They will assess the poll preparations in the districts concerned and the actual poll tasks will begin from June 2,” said EC Spokesperson Surya Prasad Shrma.
June 2 is set as the date for candidacy nominations. “We re-appointed some of the officials while new officials were deployed in the remaining areas,” said Spokesperson Sharma.
The offices of chief election officers and election officers will be set up on May 29.
Ballot papers and other election logistics have already been sent to the local units. But the election process was halted after the major political parties decided to conduct the elections in two phases. The previous stance was to hold elections across the country at a single go.
The election body has already conducted the first round local elections for 283 local units in 34 districts in the hills and mountains.
