The Judicial Council (JC) and the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Friday had recommended a total of 250 names including chief judges and officials for appointment as chief returning officers and returning officers.
JC had recommended names of 75 chief district judges as chief returning officers and other 86 judges were recommended as returning officers.
Similarly, 89 undersecretary-level officials of the judicial service were recommended for appointment as returning officers.
Though there are 240 election constituencies across the country, altogether 250 names were recommended because EC had demanded 10 additional names.
JC recommended the names of districts-based chief judges and judges and JSC the names of other staffers of the judiciary.
Chief returning officers and returning officers oversee all election related activities in the electoral constituencies.
Meanwhile, Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav has said EC is yet to get papers for printing voter ID cards.
Addressing a function in Lalitpur on Thursday, Yadav said the commission has invited tender bids for procurement of papers from foreign companies. “The EC is in difficulty regarding when and how to print voter ID cards,” he added.
Asked whether the commission would be able to distribute voter ID cards, Gurung told Republica, “We will distribute it to the voters at any cost.”
