ITAHARI, March 25: The deputy mayor of Sunsari Duhabi Municipality has been accused of beating one of the ward members of her municipality apparently after being verbally abused by him on Friday.

Deputy Mayor Sunita Dahal Sah and member of ward no. 5 Krishna Yonjan got into an argument over a small dispute. Reportedly, a Consumers Committee had filled the ground of Saraswoti Secondary School based in ward no. 5. After which a team led by Ward chief Ramesh Rauniyar had reached the work station of Sah demanding to provide compensation to the school. After a heated discussion between both the parties, Yonjan verbally abused Sah who then beta him.

"Ward chief Rauniyar was continuously pressurizing me to approve the file without proper study and investigation," said Deputy Mayor Sah, adding," I told him that I won't approve it without proper investigation and then he started bad-mouthing me." According to her, she had informed them that she will approve the file only after a field inspection by engineers and that irked the ward chief and other members. "How can I let them abuse a woman?” she questioned.

The clash occurred at the work station of the deputy mayor. As the discussion started getting serious, ward chief Rauniya went out of the room. He claims that Deputy Mayor Sah beat up Ward Member Yonjan.  "The situation went out of control when deputy mayor hit Yonjan," claims Rauniyar.

Sah's husband reached the municipality office after the fight. Mayor Ved Gachhadar was also present in the office during the discussion but unfortunately had gone out for lunch when it took a violent turn. "I was not there to stop them during the clash but I have managed to keep them calm since then, "said Mayor Gachhadar, adding, "I will make sure this won't be repeated in the future."

Mayor Gachhadar and Deputy Mayor Sah have been in god terms for months. Sah has accused Gachhadar of plotting against her and provoking the ward chief and members to misbehave with her. Before the local elections, Gachhadar and Sah had a good bonding as they both were from Nepali Congress (NC). In fact ward chief Rauniyar and member Yonjan are also from the same party.
