Police has initially analyzed the incident as a homicide. [break]The dead body was found with a large stab wound to the stomach, multiple wounds seemingly caused by beating and a burned patch on the head, police said.
“Our initial investigation shows that the person was killed following a squabble. The body could have been hanged later to conceal the murder,” said Superintendent of Police (SP) Ramesh Kharel, chief of Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu.
Thapa was said to have worked for local traders as a porter and lived with his family at the rented room. The incident took place when his wife had gone to her maternal home at Kavre together with two sons for Dashain festival.
According to police officials involved in the investigation, the incident might have taken place after 2 am when he was heard, as locals said, quarreling with unidentified persons outside his rented residence. He was also known in the neighborhood for his excessive drinking habit.
“Earlier at 11 PM, locals had chased him away when he came along shouting in an alcoholic stupor,” officials said quoting locals.
Police have yet to find out whether Thapa was killed outside or inside his room. Shards of broken beer-bottles were also extracted from the room.
The only other tenant, who was present in the same apartment on Wednesday night, has told the police that he is unaware of the incident. Other tenants of the house had gone home for the Dashain festival, while the owner of the house does not stay at the house.
“It is one of the most brutal murder cases I have ever seen,” said an investigative official. “He was stabbed in the stomach so harshly that his intestines had spilled out. Looking at the head, an attempt of arson appears conspicuous. Likewise, there is an awful lot of wounds caused by merciless beating.”
“Late-night excessive drinking could have led the person to this end,” said Kharel. Dil Bahadur´s body has been taken to TU Teaching Hospital for post mortem.
